Glittering Glamor greets your eyes as you enter Noztalgia, a stall at the end of the second floor of the Grand Market Hall (just above the mushroom displays).
Inside you will find a vibrant selection of high quality Ajka Crystal, Hollohaza Porcelain and hand painted Kalocsa Porcelain. Out of the entire market, Noztalgia is the best value. Beyond that, you will find special pieces, not easy to find at any price in similar stores. A great place to get specialty-ware that you will not find at any Bed Bath & Boredom.

Wherever we travel two of the main things we always try to visit are 1) the local cultures baths and 2) the food markets. Budapest is a haven for both!!!!!
Construction of the Great Market Hall started in 1894 according to the design of Samu Petz. In 1896 a few days before the handover fire destroyed about half of the roof. After repairing the roof the market opened on 15th March 1897.

The spacious interior holds a festival of vivid colours; the fresh products displayed in the stalls, strings of red paprika and garlic, Hungarian salamis, meats, fresh pastries, dairy products, kitchen utensils, Hungarian wines and pálinka, honey, tea, herb mixes. The fine selection of mustards and goulash sauces packed in tooth paste tubes can make great souvenirs – and add a yummy dash of flavor to many dishes. Another great thing to find here is saffron, and at reasonable price

The second floor of the market holds several stores of Hungarian embroidery, white peasant shirts and other artS and craft products, as well as couple places to sit, eat and watch the action on the first floor!

Dating from 1905, Philanthia, which translates as the love of flowers, is a more then just a floral store; it is a window into the land of the ferries. Decorated with original Art Nouevau murals and carved moldings, Philanthia seems pulled directly out of a fantasy tale. Just peer into the small iron gazebo in the center where all the fresh flowers are displayed,
Philanthia represents a long tradition in travel. It is why you go to visit other cities and cultures in the first place. We do not travel to Europe to shop at Benetton or any of the other factory outlets that dot our world now. We search out the unique, the keen, the thoughts on life that emerge from years and years of natural contemplation. We travel for places like Philanthia!
Be sure to look in the back room, where you will find hyper-realistic silk flowers, gardening accesories, candles and vases in all sizes, shapes and colours. All over the shop, you will discover fairies. Spirits hidden in flowers , sprites sitting on shelves, pixies camouflaged on a mirror frame……. keep your wits about you – or you may lost beyond the mists in this true wonderland.

Completed in 1905 after 54 years of construction, St. Stephen’s Basilica was named after the first King of Hungary (975–1038); whose mummified right hand is kept in the reliquary. The building is an absolutely magnificent carved work of art. The dome is 96m high and filters daylight in a magical way, reflecting in guilded textures the detail of the mosaics. Absolutely breath taking. A good tip is to bring binoculars so you can see the details of the mosaics (they are so intricate they can easily be mistaken for frescos!!). Make sure you walk all around the building; and know you can walk up to the cupola for some great views of the city
Attending mass outside of visiting hours gives a different perspective on this lovely cathedral. Be sure to also find out about any of the organ concerts often happening- they are sonically stunning!
