Mexico City, DF 06100

11:00am – 7:00pm    Tuesday – Saturday

In the very chic neighborhood of Condesa, in a lovely space – originally designed in 1939 by architect Luis Barragan – one finds the cute Bonito Pop Food.

The entry is dominated by a lovely mural with sculpted ceramic birds, making way into four individual spaces: an intimate hidden at a corner, a second floor with windows overlooking the main patio, a 2nd patio with very tall ceiling – head here for a  super decked bar with an amazing variety of Mezcal (including our favorite Mezcal Rojo Corazón) and many tequilas – and finally a terrace at the back of the venue with full view.

Bonito Pop food is a good place to go for drinks; but like many places in DF you are asked to consume food as well due to the liquor license laws.   It seems that acquiring a bar license is much more difficult then a restaurant with liqueur permit.

The menu here is not the most exciting – centering around burgers, pastas, pizzas, salads, sandwiches and a few Mexican classics – but the service is warm and welcoming .   There are certainly worse places to while away an afternoon!

Only a block away from the Opera (the opposite direction from the Callas)  the Művész Kávéház  smolders in  the atmosphere of an authentic eastern European coffee house- which it has been from 1899.   The ambiance is complete with its tall-smoky ceilings, dim golden light and crystal chandeliers.  Upon entry you will find, in the first room, a small bar with a nice selection of aperitifs.   Passing to the second room , you encounter a desert display with a diverse selection of delicious treats.

Stopping in the lovely Művész Kávéház coffee house before or after the Opera is a wonderful plan.  The desserts are amazing and during the warmer months, the outdoor seating is quite pleasant.

Getting there is very easy as it is quite close to the M1 Opera metro stop, or via the Trolley-bus.

Bringing us back to Cartagena’s Carribean roots, the Bazurto Social Club, located in the old-city neighborhood of Getsemani, fills us with the sounds and tastes of the tropical world it inhabits.  Bazurto -named after it’s inspiration: the Basurto Market– is a cacophony of beauty and sound.  Original murals are splayed across the walls, while the live band kicks out local hit -anything from Reggae to Reggaton -and you are handed  a lovely fresh squeezed cocktail.  The cuisine is a an array of local recipies to remind you why the people are always so happy. – the later you arrive the more fun it is

As the sign over the door says – Welcome to Jet-Set Mani 🙂
